VFW Marks 125th Anniversary Celebration
The celebration events focus on the VFW's legacy of service and advocacy for veterans in our nation.

Medina, Oh., September 29, 2024  - Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Medina Post 5137, Department of Ohio, District 7 is celebrating the organization's 125th Anniversary by hosting two events: a free community anniversary celebration and a walk-run fundraiser.

The Anniversary Celebration party on Sunday, September 29, at the Medina VFW Post, is free and open to the community. Then on October 19, we invite the community to join us at the VFW 125 Legacy Race, a walk-run-ruck event to raise funds for veterans families - fee for participation applies.

The VFW, America's largest organization of combat veterans, kicked off its year-long 125th anniversary celebration on June 5, aiming to build momentum heading into its official date of inception, Sept. 29 and into 2025.

Founded on Sept. 29, 1899, the VFW was conceived by a small group of veterans returning from the military campaigns on Cuba and in the Philippines in 1898 and 1899. Those 13 veterans banded together to a veterans service organization that would become the VFW, and would become part instrumental in virtually every major legislative victory for veterans in the 20th and 21st centuries.

We have been part of our Medina community for 79 years. Honoring and supporting veterans is at the core of everything we do. Our membership and auxiliary proudly carry VFW traditions in our hearts. And we're thrilled to open our doors to the community for these events. - Michael Romans, VFW Medina Commander, and District 7 Senior Vice Commander.

This event is one of hundreds to take place across the U.S and around the world in honor of organization's landmark anniversary, and its storied history of service and advocacy to veterans, service members and their families, and the communities the VFW serves.
